Accolade, the Philadelphia-based healthcare company with an office in Seattle, has appointed Dr. Ivor Horn as its new chief medical officer. Horn was most recetly the medical director of the Center for Diversity and Health Equity at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Accolade is led from Seattle by Concur co-founders Rajeev Singh, as CEO, and Mike Hilton, chief product officer. In August, the company announced a $70-million funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, along with Madrona Venture Group. Singh praised the addition of Horn on Thursday.

“We’ve taken on solving some of the biggest challenges in healthcare and we’re thrilled to have one of the most accomplished, forward-thinking leaders in clinical health joining us on this incredible journey,” Singh said in a news release. “Ivor brings a passion for finding creative new ways to apply data, science and technology to improve what is a deeply personal experience of managing health. She has the right set of knowledge and experience to help us accelerate the expansion of our consumer health engagement platform and our business growth.”

Horn, who is a board-certified pediatrician, is also a NIH-funded investigator, according to Accolade, and her research “focuses on healthcare communications and health disparities with an emphasis on how social media and health information technology can be used to improve child health disparities.”

She is a member of the Academic Pediatric Association, serving in leadership positions regionally as well as nationally. She also is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

“How we interact with each other and with healthcare is transforming, and Accolade is proving this,” said Horn in the Accolade release. “There is still a need for person-to-person engagement, but how you incorporate technology into that relationship is exciting. So much of healthcare happens outside the four walls of the doctor’s office and being able to engage patients wherever they are is immensely powerful. Accolade meets patients where they are, at the right time, with the right information to make a real difference in their lives, and in the bottom lines of organizations.”
