Synapse, a Seattle-based product development firm that makes devices for companies including Nike, Valve, Microsoft, Samsung and others, has been acquired by Cambridge Consultants, a UK-based product development and consultancy, for undisclosed terms.

As part of the deal, Synapse president Redwood Stephens will become president of Cambridge Consultants’ US West operations, and Synapse founder Ross Collins will join the Cambridge Consultants board of directors.

Cambridge Consultants, with a reported 540 employees, is part of the Altran technology consultancy, and the deal is part of its effort to expand the company’s U.S. presence. In a news release, Cambridge Consultants says it’s aiming to double its workforce by 2020, to more than 1,000 product development and technology specialists, and the Synapse acquisition accelerates the company’s push toward that goal.

Synapse has a total of 150 employees. GeekWire has contacted Synapse and Cambridge for additional information on the plans for the Seattle office, and we’ll update this post when we hear back.
