My mom buys her books at Barnes & Noble and just about everything else at Wegmans. I guess if I worked at Amazon, we’d have to have a conversation before she visited me on “Bring Your Parents to Work Day.”

That’s a real thing, and it’s happening on Friday in Seattle for employees of the massive internet retailer. It’s the first time the company is taking part in the exercise, which has a history at Google and LinkedIn and elsewhere.

Amazon is planning to play host to thousands of employee parents for a few hours around lunchtime. Employees will show off their workspaces, take their parents on campus tours, and drop in on various activities and informational sessions.

Lunch is also an option on campus or at nearby restaurants, as parents will get a firsthand look at the sprawling South Lake Union and Denny Triangle footprint of their kid’s company.

Taking your kid to work has always been a thing at a wide range of companies. And Amazon and many other tech companies are big on allowing dogs at work. Trekking mom and pop around Doppler, showing off the biospheres, or waiting in line at the food truck could provide for some entertaining insight.

GeekWire will be there, with questions for folks who might have wondered what it is their kid does. Check back on Friday for a parental edition of Geek on the Street to see how it all turned out.
