Fred Meyer will open a new drive-up grocery location this Wednesday at its store in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood — expanding its “ClickList” service into Amazon’s hometown for the first time, just as the online retailer starts to reveal its own brick-and-mortar grocery plans.

The service allows customers to order their groceries online and pick them up in a drive-up location at the store. The Ballard store will be the 34th Fred Meyer ClickList location. In addition, starting on Thursday this week, all existing ClickList locations will begin offering same-day ordering, a Fred Meyer spokesman said via email.

Fred Meyer parent Kroger launched ClickList in late 2014. Stores charge $4.95 per order to pick, pack and bring groceries out to the car, with no charge for the first three orders.

The new Ballard location is notable in part because it’s a short drive from the site where Amazon has been secretly renovating a building for its own drive-up grocery store, according to planning documents uncovered by GeekWire. Separately, Amazon this morning unveiled plans for a new brick-and-mortar convenience store called Amazon Go that will let shoppers pick up items off the shelves and leave without standing in line to pay.
