Microsoft is putting a couple recent acquisitions to good use with an update to its customer relationship management software, Dynamics CRM.

With the purchase of FieldOne and Adxstudio, Microsoft sent a message that it wasn’t backing away from its CRM product, despite a partnership with the biggest name in CRM, Salesforce, earlier that year.

In a blog post today announcing the upcoming update, Dynamics CRM general manager Jujhar Singh said the move is a “fundamental transition” to a more comprehensive solution, making it easier for Dynamics CRM customers to add service integrations into their consumer products.

With the new capabilities we’re introducing in our Spring wave to support field and project service, organizations will have the ability to schedule, manage and deliver onsite service, whether it be their field technician who is supporting multiple customers on a single day, or complex, multi-day projects. Field service matches the requirements for service calls with the available resources and end-to-end processes span from case management through to work order completion.

The field service capabilities likely come from FieldOne tech, which let employees access CRM systems from mobile devices. However, another new feature, portals, comes from the Adxstudio acquisition.

“The CRM Spring 2016 wave also introduces community engagement through portal solutions,” Singh said. “Our portal capabilities enable organizations to better connect with customers, partners and employees, and provide these groups with a streamlined way to access information, obtain assistance and perform tasks.”

The Dynamics CRM update is coming in the second quarter of this year. Customers can check out a roadmap of future features, powered by Dynamics CRM’s new portal abilities, over on the Dynamics website.
