LAS VEGAS — If there’s at least one thing we learned at the big Consumer Electronics Show this week, it’s that Microsoft knows how to entertain.
The Redmond tech giant hosted a wild and crazy CES party in Las Vegas this week — one that featured marching bands, Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, flying cake, women with umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, and a performance from renowned DJ Steve Aoki.
Inside a packed and bass-thumping Omnia Nightclub at Caesars Place, attendees — including hundreds of Microsoft’s partners and customers, who received complimentary admission — began arriving around 10 p.m. Some danced the night away on a huge floor downstairs, while those with special Microsoft wristbands filled the balcony above, where free booze was flowing everywhere.
Before Aoki came on stage after 1 a.m., a separate DJ played today’s top hits as an assortment of ridiculous stunts went down throughout the nightclub.
For example, a marching band would periodically come to specific booths alongside cocktail waitresses hoisting champagne bottles attached with small sparklers. There was also a group of women dressed in Stormtrooper costumes carrying around signs with individual letters that spelled out “Microsoft.” Adding to the Star Wars fare, a dancing Darth Vader made an appearance, too.
Aoki played several tracks and kept the energy up throughout his set. He topped it all off by throwing full sheet cakes into the audience — yes, like, actual cakes — as many came out of the club donning frosting all over themselves.

Microsoft, which doesn’t have a huge presence at the annual tech show but did have executives in town and hosted a small private event showcasing Windows devices, had a similar CES party last year at the Hakkasan nightclub, featuring tunes from the DJ Tiesto.
