Colorful carpets laden with mugshots of celebrities. Lego Duplo blocks constructed in conference rooms with small policeman figurines. Pirate-themed flags that line the ceilings.

Avvo’s new headquarters in Seattle has subtle legal industry motifs scattered throughout, which makes sense for a company that is changing the way people find and pay for legal services.

GeekWire stopped by Avvo’s new 110,000 square-foot downtown Seattle office last week to check out its new digs that take up seven floors at the 8th + Olive Building near South Lake Union.

The new space features open work spaces, meeting rooms, espresso machines, kitchens, kegerators, and a lot of glass — an homage to “transparency,” explained Avvo CEO Mark Britton.

“We are all about transparency as it relates to the legal profession,” he said.

Avvo, which employs more than 350 employees and has raised $132 million to date, charges users $39 in exchange for a 15-minute phone call with a lawyer who provides legal advice. The company also recently rolled out Avvo Legal Services, a new offering that includes full-scale services with advice, document review, and offline meetings with a lawyer included.

Avvo also offers a Q&A forum with more than 9 million questions and answers, along with profiles for 97 percent of practicing lawyers in the United States.
