Google has released a beta version of Cloud Tools for PowerShell, aiming to make Google’s cloud more attractive to .NET developers who have used PowerShell to build Windows apps — developers who might naturally be inclined to use Microsoft’s Azure cloud instead. (PowerShell is built on Microsoft’s .NET framework.)

“We’re ramping up our efforts for Windows developers and would love to hear from you about the direction you want us to take,” Google said in a blog post announcing the release.

PowerShell is the default task-automation and configuration management tool in the Windows world. It’s based on the use of lightweight commands called cmdlets. Cloud Tools for PowerShell is a collection of cmdlets for accessing and manipulating Google Cloud Platform resources. It currently allows access to Google Compute Engine,Google Cloud Storage, Google Cloud SQL and Google Cloud DNS. For other services, developers must use the gcloud command line tool inside Google Cloud SDK Shell.

Microsoft last month released a version of PowerShell for Linux and put it on GitHub.
