Google’s Kirkland campus

Google Kirkland employees unfortunate enough to have to come in on Saturday will at least get to see and enjoy a group of 60 kids camping out on the lawn and having fun outside.

The camping event this weekend is being called “the first of its kind,” and it is a partnership between Google, U.S. Department of the Interior and the YMCA. As part of the event, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will join Google to announce that the company is sponsoring the National Park Foundation’s Open OutDoors for Kids and Every Kid in a Park initiatives. The programs aim to get kids more interested in playing outdoors and exploring national parks.

Also taking part in activities will be local partners NatureBridge, Woodland Park Zoo, Pacific Science Center, National Park Service, Fish & Wildlife Service.

We’re told the event only applies to the outdoor spaces at the Kirkland campus, of which there are many. That means the kids won’t get to use the cool nap rooms or nest-like meeting areas that Google showed off when it completed the expansion of the campus earlier this year.
