Nathan Myhrvold has been added to the lineup of speakers for the 2016 GeekWire Summit, taking place Oct. 4 and 5 in Seattle — bringing his insights to the event as the co-founder of Intellectual Ventures, former Microsoft technology chief, and one of the most controversial figures and biggest thinkers in the industry.

Myhrvold, whose interests range from high-tech cooking to asteroid data analysis, will participate in an interview on stage with GeekWire editors on topics including the role of scientific innovation in fueling new startup ideas. Intellectual Ventures, a longtime lightning rod for its patent holdings, has also spun out a series of startups based on inventions from the IV labs, including Echodyne, Kymeta and several others.

He joins a lineup of technology, business and scientific heavyweights including Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi; DARPA chief Arati Prabhakar; Bloomberg Beta founding partner Shivon Zilis; Modumetal Co-founder and CEO Christina Lomasney; Microsoft EVP Peggy Johnson; Airbnb board member Jeff Jordan of Andreessen Horowitz; OfferUp CEO Nick Huzar; and Juno Therapeutics CEO Hans Bishop.

The GeekWire Summit, presented by Bank of America, explores what’s next in the innovation economy, while also creating strong and lasting bonds between those who attend. We also like to mix in fun and excitement, and a few off-the-wall surprises.

This year’s activities will start on the evening of Oct. 3, with a welcome party at the amazing downtown headquarters of Zillow. That will be followed by conference activities on Oct. 4-5 at the Sheraton in downtown Seattle, including a fun party the evening of Oct. 4 on one of Seattle’s best rooftop decks.

Stay tuned for more details on the GeekWire Summit in the weeks ahead — we’ll be announcing additional speakers in the coming days — and grab your tickets below before the event sells out.
