A new drone video wowed us a couple days ago because it was shot inside Seattle’s under-construction SR 99 tunnel. But an altered version on Youtube that includes “Star Wars” footage and Luke Skywalker blowing up the Alaskan Way Viaduct may just win the week.

“Death Star Viaduct” mashes the climatic scene from the original “Star Wars” film with footage of Seattle’s waterfront as well as scenes captured inside the tunnel by the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Skywalker is shown trying to navigate the tunnel rather than the bowels of the Death Star. He races past construction equipment and Porta Potties.

Darth Vader and his TIE fighter are sent spinning off over Elliott Bay as Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon races past the Great Wheel. “You’re all clear kid, now let’s blow this thing and go home.”

Skywalker lets go with a X-wing fighter blast into Bertha the tunneling machine’s apparently non-shielded particle exhaust vent. A big explosion sends the Viaduct crumbling to the ground (using footage from WSDOT’s video of what a 7.0 earthquake would maybe do to the elevated highway).

The Star Wars Day creation comes from Sam Veatch on YouTube, who calls himself a “PNW editor, photog and musician.”
