Barbie hoverboard

Barbie is kicking off her high heels and taking flight on a futuristic hoverboard that makes her days aboard this thing look way out of style. Mattel showed off the high-flying doll at the New York Toy Fair over the weekend.

When you hear “hoverboard” these days you’re more likely to picture a fire than Marty McFly. Barbie’s version does actually leave the ground — she’s standing atop a quadcopter drone. Because style points matter, she’s outfitted in pink pants, top and skirt and wears a silver vest with matching silver boots.

The Telegraph reports that the drone can lift a lighter-weight version of Barbie and has been adapted to make it easy for kids 8 and up to fly. There’s even a pink controller. The toy will reportedly be available in the fall and sell for $60.

The evolution of Mattel’s iconic fashion doll has been swift of late. The toymaker announced in January that more body styles were being made available.
