Planning the perfect vacation just got a little easier.

Globespinning, a free app that launched to travelers worldwide on July 9, allows users to create beautiful and organized travel itineraries that are shareable with friends and family. It’s all intuitive and extremely useful for seasoned and novice travelers alike.

Users start by uploading photos from a recent vacation — a process that’s as simple as uploading an album to Facebook. Simply select your favorite images from your trip and the app will geotag and timestamp them to create a “postcard” diary.

You can also add comments and travel tips to the postcards, so that anyone referring to your itinerary can get additional information on their own vacation. The app also provides ratings, contact information and directions to any destination it identifies. If you like an itinerary, you can save it to your favorites and refer to it when you touch down in your destination.

Globespinning might even provide you with the inspiration you need to plan a trip somewhere you would have never thought to venture. If you’re looking for vacation ideas, click on any itinerary in the discover feed. The app provides start-to-finish map directions for each day, plus trip photos and reviews of restaurants and places visited. You can then decide from itineraries you favorited which ones offer the best places to visit.

The app is created by a Seattle-based startup led by two sisters, Mandy Rossi and Amy Boes. [Editor’s Note: Mandy Rossi is the wife of GeekWire chief business officer Daniel Rossi.]

Fans of smartphone food photography should definitely fire away. When you upload pictures of some good-looking grub, the app geotags them for other travelers to salivate over. Don’t eye-roll your friend’s need to snap her salad — use it as a clue to finding a good meal.

While the app can provide the inspiration to set out on a trip or fondly recall one, most daily scrolling is likely to be done by those actively planning a trip or currently taking part in one. Since the app was just released, there are still places that lack itineraries. But there’s some spectacular-looking information available on popular destinations such as Hawaii, Paris and Cabo San Lucas.

Personally, I’m always looking for travel ideas, especially affordable ones, and that’s where I think Globespinning could improve (aside from changing the name to Globespinner, which would be a more logical name in my mind). While it’s great that John C. from Florida stayed at the Ritz Carlton, I’m more of a Best Western kind of guy and it would be helpful if the app offered different itineraries tailored to different budgets.

If prompted, I would have certainly labeled my spring break vacation to Hawaii as “thrifty.” Subsequently, someone could filter trips in their discover feed for lower- or higher-budget options, depending on the type of vacation they’re planning.

Vacation time is limited and travelers want to be sure they’re making the most of it. Ultimately, the app does make it easier to plan a getaway — and it simplifies things for those of us who don’t want to plan at all! It all depends on traveler tastes, but Globespinning certainly provides users with great ideas and itineraries. It’s like having a personal pocket travel guide.

You can download Globespinning for iPhone and iPad in the App Store.
