Amazon has a new original kids series called “The Kicks” coming to Prime Video that seizes on the popularity of youth soccer and is in fact based on a book series by U.S. Women’s National Team star player Alex Morgan.

The pilot episode of the live-action series, geared toward kids ages 6 to 11, is available to stream right now on Prime and nine additional episodes will debut on Aug. 26 exclusively for Prime members.

“The Kicks” follows the story of Devin Burke, played by actress Sixx Orange, who was a star player on her soccer team until her family moved to California. At her new school, Devin finds the team, called The Kicks, has been on a losing streak and needs a leader to rally the team.

“Both Alex Morgan and now Devin are undeniably strong female role models who will inspire our audience to work hard and passionately to achieve their goals,” Tara Sorensen, head of Kids Programming at Amazon Studios, said in a news release. “‘The Kicks’ showcases the value of overcoming the odds and our audience will relate with the broader themes of passion, determination and camaraderie developed throughout the season.”

Morgan’s book series is a New York Times best seller, and the Olympic gold medalist said it’s exciting to see “The Kicks” come to life.

“It is amazing to see the pages of my books take shape on the screen, and I cannot wait for it to premiere,” Morgan said. “Devin is so relatable and kids will go with her on this journey that draws from my real experiences as a young athlete.”
