Amazon announced today that Daniel Huttenlocher, founding dean at Cornell Tech, has joined its board of directors.

Huttenlocher helped start Cornell Tech, a Cornell University graduate school focused on technology that opened in 2012, and is currently the founding dean and vice provost. He first joined Cornell in 1988 as a computer science professor.

Huttenloche previously worked at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) and was CTO at Intelligent Markets. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and attended MIT for his master’s and doctorate degrees.

Huttenlocher is currently a director at Corning Incorporated, a publicly-traded materials science company based in New York. Fellow Amazon board member Wendell Weeks is chairman and CEO at Corning. Huttenlocher is also a board member at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

This Financial Times story from last year noted that Huttenlocher holds 24 patents related to computer vision.

Huttenlocher will also join Amazon’s Leadership Development and Compensation Committee of the Board. He was also granted 1,131 shares of common stock that will vest in three equal annual installments beginning Nov. 15, 2017.

The company’s board now consists of 11 members: Jeff Bezos, Tom Alberg, John Seely Brown, William Gordon, Jamie Gorelick, Judith McGrath, Jonathan Rubinstein, Thomas Ryder, Patricia Stonesifer, Weeks, and now Huttenlocher.

We’ve reached out to Huttenlocher for more about his new role on Amazon’s board and will update this post when we hear back.
