The same tech that powers Tesla’s electric cars might be coming to your home sooner than you think.

Earlier today, Elon Musk tweeted that the company will announce a new product at the end of April — and, rumor has it, it’s a battery for your house.

Musk doesn’t say exactly what the product will be, but evidence is pointing to the home battery. “We are going to unveil the Tesla home battery, the consumer battery that would be for use in people’s houses or businesses fairly soon,” Musk said in an earnings call, according to Bloomberg, in February.

Musk continued that call by saying news of the product would be released “within the next month or two” with production starting as soon as six months out. “Tesla already offers residential energy-storage units to select customers through SolarCity Corp.,” Bloomberg reports.

If Tesla offers homeowners and small businesses an easier way to get off the grid, it could be considered quite “disruptive” to conventional utility companies. However, with ever-increasing power needs, perhaps it’s just the disrupt we need.
