Gizmodo made this video showing what exactly happens to your old electronics in an e-waste recycling plant in upstate New York. The plant, Hugo Neu Recycling used to recycle scrap metal, but now specializes in taking your old electronics, breaking ’em down and reselling them in bulk to other companies.

The City of Seattle encourages you to contact the Take it Back Network, which accepts “computers, monitors, printers, TVs, cell phones, PDAs, fax machines, audio video and camera equipment (including DVD and VCR players), household electronics and rechargeable batteries.” They also encourage you to check out E-Cycle Washington, which will take many electronics items free of charge for individuals, small businesses, charities and more.

It’s a cool look at what exactly happens to old electronics, and reminder that e-waste is a pretty serious problem. Now get to recycling!
