What happens when Warren Buffet and U2’s Bono get together at the Gates Foundation? They chat about philanthropy, of course. There was no doubt more to the conversation, but that’s the tidbit passed along by Gates Foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellmann in this Facebook post.

Bono! Backstage Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Annual employee meeting. Best of many great stories was Bono & ONE…

Apparently this town needs an old-fashioned gossip columnist, because the private appearance by Buffett and Bono in Seattle last week went largely unnoticed in the traditional media.

Same goes for Microsoft’s high-powered CEO Summit, which completely avoided media attention for the first time this year, with Microsoft taking the annual event event further under the radar. The company traditionally allowed reporters at the event, but not in recent years.

According to a fact sheet released by the company, attendees at the event last week included these top execs.

  • Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO, Amazon.com Inc.
  • Sara Blakely, Founder, Spanx Inc.
  • Warren Buffett, Chairman and CEO, Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
  • Dick Costolo, CEO, Twitter Inc.
  • Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO, JPMorgan Chase & Co.
  • Reed Hastings, Founder and CEO, Netflix Inc.

Topics discussed at the event included “Dealing with Data Breaches” and “Rethinking the Customer Experience,” according to the company. More than 130 top execs from more than 30 countries attended the event, which was first started by Bill Gates in 1997.
