It may seem like August is a long way out, but Valve is already announcing its plans for this year’s edition of The International, a massive Dota 2 tournament that will bring 16 teams from around the world to Seattle for six days of competition. The tournament will be held on August 3-8 in Seattle.
Aside from that, there aren’t many details available. Qualifying teams will receive their invitations to attend in May, and Valve said that it will release ticket information on its blog later this year.
If this year is anything like last year, The International is going to be huge. Thanks to in-game activity from Dota 2 players, last year’s tournament sported a prize pool worth almost $11 million, a record among e-sports tournaments. ESPN 2 even provided a preview to the final match.
