uberselect12Uber customers in Seattle have another option to get around town.

UberSELECT, a higher-end version of uberX that features brands like BMW and Lexus, is now live in the Emerald City. Uber has been rolling out the new service around the country for the past several months.

Those who use UberSELECT will be able to ride in a luxurious car and also pay about double the rates offered by the lower-cost uberX service.

“Whether it’s date night, a midday meeting, or just a reason to feel fancy, you deserve to ride in style,” Uber wrote today. “Go ahead and live the high life in the back seat of a BMW, Lexus, or other high-end vehicles without breaking the bank.”

[Update: Uber has since changed the blog post and edited the quote above to, “Whether you’re headed to the airport, a mid-day meeting, or date night, you deserve to ride in style. Sit back and relax in a BMW, Lexus, or other high-end vehicle without breaking the bank.”]

A notification will pop up for Uber users in Seattle with a short paragraph describing UberSELECT.

“Whether you’re headed out on a date night or coming home from the airport, you deserve options,” the notification reads. “That’s why we’re introducing UberSELECT — the safe, affordable ride with an added touch of luxury.”

You can use UberSELECT to get home from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

It’s worth noting that Uber includes the phrase “coming home from the airport.” uberX drivers are not allowed to pick up passengers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport because of existing exclusive contracts the Port of Seattle has with taxi companies.

However, we reported last week how Uber is partnering with fully-licensed for-hire companies in Seattle who are making their drivers available to pick up uberX passengers that call for a ride on Uber’s app.

Now with UberSELECT, this is one more option for Uber customers in need of a ride home from Sea-Tac. While it is more expensive than an uberX ride, UberSELECT is still cheaper than UberBLACK and UberSUV, both of which are also allowed to do pickups at Sea-Tac because they operate under limousine and chauffeur rules.

We’ve reached out to Uber to clarify who is allowed to drive for UberSELECT. One thing to note is that a UberSELECT ride does not include a $0.20 fee required by the City of Seattle for “Transportation Network Companies” like uberX and Lyft.
