U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell

One of the country’s geekiest senators is joining the GeekWire Summit this week in Seattle.

Senator Maria Cantwell, who before election to the U.S. Senate in 2000 worked as a technology executive at Seattle-based RealNetworks, will speak at the Summit on Friday, Oct. 2 just after lunch.

Senator Cantwell, the first in her family to graduate from college, will discuss several topics of importance to the U.S., including cybersecurity and the importance of fueling jobs in the tech sector.

The Democratic Senator from Washington state joins a strong lineup of speakers at this year’s Summit, including Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff; former NASA Deputy Administrator Lori Garver; DocuSign founder Tom Gonser; Xbox chief Phil Spencer; venture capitalist Dave McClure and many others.

A few tickets to the Summit remain, so grab yours here. More than 700 people are expected to attend this year’s Summit on Oct. 1-2, the biggest tech conference of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.
