Costco’s newest board member is former Voicestream Wireless CEO John Stanton, the warehouse retailer announced today.
It is not the only high-profile board seat for Stanton.
He was named to the Microsoft board last year to help the software giant improve its mobile offerings.
Stanton has a storied history in the wireless industry, serving as CEO and chairman a range of wireless providers, including Western Wireless, VoiceStream Wireless and Clearwire. He also serves on the Columbia Sportswear board.
“We are very pleased to welcome John as a new member of our Board,” said Costco board chairman Jeff Brotman. “He is widely recognized as a pioneer and leader in the wireless telecommunications industry. He brings substantial experience as a seasoned entrepreneur and chief executive and as a board member of prominent companies.”
Stanton — who founded the Bellevue venture capital firm Trilogy — could help Costco navigate the complicated and changing online retailing landscape. He also could help the discount warehouse club improve its mobile offerings.
