—Amazon hired Bob Bowen as head of music for the company’s Amazon Studios division. The film music veteran will oversee strategy, partnerships and licensing for original content as Amazon looks to create more of their own shows and movies.
Bowen has a long history of building soundtracks for movies. Before coming to Amazon, he served as president of music for Relativity Media, which co-produced films like Furious 7 and Zero Dark Thirty. Before that, he worked as executive vice president of music for New Line Films, the studio behind The Hobbit and Snakes on a Plane.
Amazon Studios is building up a stable of talent as it adds more original content. With shows like “Mozart in the Jungle” and “Transparent,” Amazon could use the Bowen’s skills to expand the show’s soundtracks.
—8Stem hired Karla Horwitz as chief financial officer for the digital music platform co-founded by Sub Pop founder Bruce Pavitt. With her past in developing growth-oriented financial strategies for companies like PopCap Games and Spare5, she’ll help the startup develop a plan for profitability as it moves out of its beta phase.
“Karla brings deep experience in growth stage structure and strategic planning,” said 8Stem CEO and co-founder Adam Farish. “Her presence adds to the chemistry and credibility of our core team. Having Karla focused on revenue scalability enables the other members of the leadership team at 8Stem to focus on our product and its rollout.”
Horwitz has served a CFO for a variety of companies. She is also the CFO of Spare5 and Playfab, as well as CEO of the advising firm she founded, The Horwitz Group. She’s also served as an advisor to CFOs at Arthur Andersen.
—Sprint appointed Annette Jacobs as president of the Pacific Northwest region, where she’ll head the mobile carrier’s efforts in gaining ground against Washington-based T-Mobile. The move is part of Sprint’s move to a more regional model, which was first tested in Chicago.
“Our new regional structure puts us closer to our customers, enabling us to serve them even better in 19 of our most important markets,” said Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure. “Annette’s incredible track record and strong ties to the Pacific Northwest will deliver an excellent experience for our customers and help us win in local markets.”
Jacobs joins Sprint from Newport Board Group and previously served as president of the west at wireless carrier Cricket, which was acquired by AT&T. She’s also served in leadership positions at Qwest, Verizon Wireless, and GTE Wireless. She is also co-founder and co-chair for Women Corporate Directors.
—CenturyLink promoted LeeAnn Miller to area vice president. She is responsible for commercial acquisition and enterprise account sales teams. Her teams find new clients and manage existing clients in the state of Washington.
Miller has more than 15 years in directing field sales with the company. Prior to joining CenturyLink, she held sales and marketing positions at MidCom Communications and AT&T.
