Fledge has reached a notable milestone.

The Seattle-based accelerator this week announced that it has raised and invested a total of $1 million into 39 startups hailing from 11 countries since it launched back in 2012.

Fledge is a TechStars-like accelerator, but with a focus on “conscious companies.” To be part of Fledge’s 10-week program, each company must demonstrate a socially-conscious mission and model. In exchange for 7 percent equity ownership, participating startups receive an initial $20,000 investment, a number that has grown from $7,000 back when Fledge started.

fledgellcFledge investors include the likes of Seattle-based angels T.A. McCann, Mike McSherry, Will Poole, Dave Richards, Mike Mathieu, and others. To date, the accelerator has graduated six classes.

“Fledge is proving that it is possible for startups to do good, by doing business, and not just Seattle or just American startups, but startups from North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa,” Fledge founder Luni Libes said in a statement.

Fledge graduates include companies like Evrnu, which makes cotton recyclable, and East Africa Fruit, which is improving how fruits and vegetables are distributed and aggregated in Tanzania.
