SkyWard builds software for customers in industries like agriculture, construction, and filmmaking that use multiple unmanned aerial vehicles. Its product provides a way to manage individual drone information, digital logbooks, pilot credentials, and more. The company also helps clients navigate the regulatory landscape for UAVs.

Jonathan Evans founded SkyWard in late 2012 after reading “Here Come the Drones,” a seminal piece by 3DRobotics CEO and DIY Drones founder Chris Anderson. Evans used his GI Bill and military experience to get SkyWard off the ground. The company raised a $1.5 million seed round this past June, which included participation from Tim Draper and Voyager Capital.

In October, Skyward partnered with NASA for a project called “Urban Skyways” that demonstrated how a commercial drone network operated with full regulatory and insurance compliance may look like in the future.
