The Seattle Police Officers Guild has a message for union members: Behave yourselves. Social media is watching.

At least that’s the gist of the “keep it classy” message they posted to Facebook:

“Times have changed and we must also change to adapt to societal expectations,” reads the post. “We are held to a higher standard by those who entrust us with their safety and who call us when they need help in their darkest hour. The more apolitical we can be, the smoother the path forward shall be.”

This comes courtesy of The Stranger’s Slog, which also reported on the MLK Day incident in which an officer “lost control” while running after a protestor, while other police rolled in and started pepper-spraying the crowd.

Policing the police is one area where social media and smartphones come in handy. And while, yes, we do appreciate most of our fine women and men in blue who work to keep us safe, sometimes a quick video can uncover behavior we might not otherwise see — and the whole story.
