The much-anticipated J.J. Abrams’ directed The Force Awakens is still months away, but rumors are already surfacing that he may sign on to do another Star Wars film.
And while Abrams won’t be directing Episode VIII, “rumor has it he’s Lucasfilm and Disney’s current front-runner to direct the third part of the new trilogy,” according to io9, which also claims that “four different anonymous sources” have confirmed that Abrams is a serious contender. io9 is citing the Latino Review as its source.
The LR reports that those at Disney who have seen The Force Awakens footage are “very happy.”
“Despite his absence from the production team on the next installments, his commitment to other ongoing franchises and early rumors of disagreements between him and the Disney Team, there’s a good chance that J.J. Abrams will be back to direct Star Wars: Episode IX.”
