mixpoMixpo, a Seattle startup that makes it easy to create online video ads, is cutting jobs and shifting resources to improve efficiency at the 8-year-old company.

Mixpo CEO Charlie Tillinghast confirmed today that his company reduced its headcount by less than 10 percent last week “as part of an overall improvement of the company that started months ago,” he noted. Mixpo now employs more than 90 people.

“Previously, several vice president positions were eliminated to streamline decision-making and reduce overhead,” Tillinghast noted. “Last week, lower level positions were eliminated to gain efficiency with smaller development teams, increase productivity in client services, and to make room in the budget for new positions. We are sorry to say goodbye to good friends and colleagues, but the changes were necessary for the future health of the business.”

While the company is cutting jobs, Mixpo also added two high-level sales executives, a marketing manager, and welcomed back two managers from maternity leave in the last month. Mixpo, which acquired ShopIgniter last year and is backed by Madrona Venture Group, Yaletown Venture Partners and Growthworks, also plans to hire software developers to work on new products.

“Mixpo continues to grow its top line and is having a profitable quarter,” Tillinghast said, adding that the staffing changes are “simply proactive steps to ensure that we execute as effectively and efficiently as possible.”
