surface 3You’ll soon be able to take your Microsoft tablet to the park or on the train and still stay connected, if you use AT&T.

Microsoft first unveiled its latest update to the baseline Surface tablet back in March, but it took until this month for the 4G LTE version to hit the U.S. AT&T announced today that it will be the first carrier in the country to offer the device, starting on July 24.

The standard Surface 3 is $499, but AT&T isn’t offering any standard sales of the 4G device. Instead, customers can pay $30 per month as part of the 20-month AT&T Tablet Installment plan ($600 in total) or purchase one for $400 when bought with a Lumia phone on AT&T’s Next smartphone upgrade plan. Both payment options require a separate service plan. Business customers will be able to buy the commercial version of the 4G LTE-enabled Surface 3 soon.

The Surface 3 runs full Windows 8.1 via an Intel Atom processor, a switch from the ARM-powered Surface 2 before it that ran a limited version called Windows RT. The AT&T version will come with the same features as the existing option, including a year of Office 365 Personal and 64GB of flash storage, but also includes a 4G LTE antenna for connecting away from WiFi.
