Microsoft released an update to its OneNote apps for iOS and Android today. The iOS version is now universal, meaning it’s the same app for iPads and iPhones. The Android update is smaller, allowing users to move pages between notebooks.

The iPhone version of OneNote is becoming the main iOS app, now simply called Microsoft OneNote. iPad users will need to download the new app to get the update, but once they do they’ll be able to access many features recently added to the iPhone app.

One of the biggest features is the ability to start notes from the Today widget in the notification center, allowing users to quickly create text notes or capture pictures directly to OneNote.

iPad users will also be able to quickly access page previews by simply turning their iPad into landscape mode, and get a better document/whiteboard camera that increase contrast for better captures.

With the Android update, users will be able to move pages between notebooks within the latest version of the app. Users who quickly jot down a note in whatever notebook is open can now quickly move it to the right notebook. Just press and hold on the page you want to move, then select the new “Move page” option from the popup menu.

Android Wear users can look forward to a OneNote update in the near future. Microsoft will add recent notes and tasks sections to the Wear app. Users can get the updated Wear app soon by signing up for Beta Community, or wait a few weeks for it to show up in the Play Store.

This is part of Microsoft’s pattern of updating non-Windows versions of their apps more frequently. The company updated the Office for Mac suite for the first time in five years earlier this month, with a promise to keep the suite up-to-date with monthly improvements. The company has also acquired many highly acclaimed universal apps this year, including Sunrise, Wunderlist and Acompli. This is all part of CEO Satya Nadella’s attempt to make Microsoft more nimble and responsive across platforms.
