Imagine being able to take real-time data almost effortlessly. That’s the idea behind PocketLab, a wireless sensor for anyone who is curious about collecting information about the world around them.

Perfect for educators and students, PocketLab is easy to use. Connect it to your smartphone, tablet or Chromebook with a single button. PocketLab measures acceleration, force, angular velocity, magnetic fields, pressure, altitude and temperature. It sends data to the accompanying cloud software, where you can see it via your device and analyze the data.

There is currently a Kickstarter campaign for PocketLab. And with 26 days to go, they’ve already raised more than $42,000, well past their initial goal of $25,000. If you contribute $78 or more, you get the sensor, app, one year of cloud service and a guidebook with 25 experiments in their Exploration Guide to get you started.

The best part of PocketLab is how small and versatile it is, perfect for kids. The makers say on their Kickstarter page, “We put it inside a soccer ball, sent it up in a bottle rocket, and attached it to our new puppy dog. And that was just Friday.”

PocketLab’s creators say they’ve tested the device with more than 100 middle-schools science teachers, high school physics classes, hobbyists and universities like Purdue and Stanford. In addition to their Exploration Guide, they’re working to add “hundreds of lessons and demonstrations to help you get started.”

We’re certainly intrigued. Watch them attach it to a rocket below:
