It’s like a Leatherman meets a wallet: The Modulus is a handy-dandy little wallet of tools, which also happens to hold money and cards, that you can easily carry every day.

The idea of a Seattle-area native studying at Purdue, Rahul Bhardwaj has a Kickstarter campaign going to support the development of his wallet. For those of us (including me) who often scramble around to find a basic tool like a flathead screwdriver, it looks like a Godsend.

“Traditional wallet design demands users conform to the design of the wallet while offering no functionality,” writes Bhardwaj on his Kickstarter. “The result are a series of wallets that all share the same thing: compromise. We set out to solve this problem, and with interchangeable parts as well as physical settings, the Modulus does exactly that. Everything about the wallet is designed to be as adjustable as possible, resulting in a wallet that is truly built around the user.”

The compact design features 16 tools, including several wrenches, screwdrivers, drill bits, a utility knife with a removable blade (to make airport security easy) — even a bottle opener.

The best part? Bhardwaj is giving 10 percent of profits to Washington FIRST Robotics. He aspires to be a mechanical engineer and writes, “I chose this path in large part because of my high school experience with the foundation Washington FIRST Robotics. I want to be a part of bringing similar opportunities to other students, and give back to an organization which influenced me so much.”

To date, he has just over $2,300 of his $4,000 goal met with 28 days to go. A pledge of $30 will snag you a basic wallet, which in wallet prices, is really reasonable. Price up and get more gadgets and tools added to your package.
