Yes! Like peanut butter and chocolate, Lucasfilm and virtual reality needed to come together as one.

Variety reports today that Lucasfilm has announced a new unit called ILMxLab, formed with its subsidiaries Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, to bring virtual reality and other augmented technologies into play. The first work from the lab is supposed to start trickling out later this year.

According to the site, the ILMxLab will make “immersive” and next-gen storytelling experiences for Star Wars fans that put you right into the action.

Of course, as Variety states, the lab isn’t only doing virtual and augmented reality — the experiences will expand to real-time cinema, and of course, theme parks.

Experiential storytelling. Can’t wait!
