Kurt Cobain was into virtual reality way before most of the world.

In this MTV interview from 1993, Cobain introduces us to the “Dreamer,” a device with six settings, which does not look unlike a modern-day smartphone with apps, and a pair of dark glasses.

What does the “Dreamer” do? Why, it helps you dream of course. Or, as Cobain tells the interviewer, when he asks him what he dreams about: “German shepherds and having sex with my stepfather and eating flowers.”

It really makes you think what Cobain would have thought of Oculus Rift or Google Glass.

With HBO premiering the Kurt Cobain documentary “Montage of Heck” tonight at 9 p.m., this clip is another rare inside look at the artist who helped put Seattle music on the map.
