Seattle-based Korner has raised $1.5 million to help fuel marketing and production of its home security product.

The funding round, part of which we reported on earlier this year, was led by Alliance of Angels and included participation from Tech Coast Angels and other angel investors.

Founded in 2013, Korner offers a 24-hour home monitoring system that includes a dongle, which plugs into a router, and sensing tags that are placed in the corner of doors and windows. The smartphone app can send notifications when someone has entered the home and users can then forward the alert to neighbors who are in a pre-specified circle, or notify police. The app also can be used to arm or disarm the system while on the go, much like a Nest thermostat.

Korner successfully raised $416,994 through an Indiegogo campaign this past summer, crushing its original goal of $150,000. Korner CEO Steve Hollis, a former Amazon Web Services employee, told GeekWire that the Indiegogo orders will be shipped out in a few weeks.

The fresh cash will help Korner get ready for a public launch of its product in August. The eight-person company is currently taking pre-orders at its website — three sensing tags and one dongle will run you $59, plus a $39 annual fee charged after each year of use.

Hollis said that the idea for Korner came after he spoke with a family who wanted to protect their house, but couldn’t afford a security system.

“It struck me at the time that this is crazy,” Hollis said last year. “Ultimately, I just said there has to be an opportunity here.”
