AlwaysA12-TwitterThe Seahawks may have lost on Super Bowl Sunday, but Seattle Mayor Ed Murray still wants his constituents to show support for the city’s professional football team.

Murray’s office is asking people change their social media avatars with the “Always a 12” image you can see to the right, and also sign a thank you card for the team.

“The Seahawks are a class act,” Murray’s office wrote. “While the outcome of the game was heartbreaking, the team played with tremendous heart and guts to the very end. All of Seattle is proud of everything they accomplished this year and we know they’ll be back next year.”

For those that still want to keep their current avatar, but still show support for the Hawks, Murray’s office provided a “Twibbon” that people can add to the corner for their pictures. Murray did so with this Twitter avatar.

At GeekWire’s Startup Day last week, Murray noted that he made a friendly Super Bowl bet with Boston Mayor Martin Walsh — loser had to travel to the opposing city and complete a day of service. Looks like Murray will be coming through Boston sometime in the near future to lend a helping hand to the community.

It will be interesting to see if Murray continues this change-your-avatar trend with non sports-related organizations or initiatives.

Update, Feb. 3 — The mayor’s office noted that it has asked people to change their avatars for other initiatives in the past, including the Internet Slowdown campaign last year and GLAAD’s Spirit Day.
