It’s pretty common knowledge that HBO’s Silicon Valley picks the brains of those in the tech world to fuel storylines for its extremely funny parody of what it’s like to navigate startup land.

For Season 3, the show landed a biggie — Twitter’s former CEO Dick Costolo.

Costolo, who has a background in standup comedy, is spending at least a “couple days a week” in the writers’ room, according to the show’s creator Mike Judge in this BloombergBusiness interview.

When the interviewers ask Judge if Costolo is “bringing it,” without hesitating, Judge fires back, “He sure is.”

Judge says that Costolo offers a perspective on the tech world, often sharing stories that kind of blow their minds. He says they often ask Costolo, “Hey, Dick, would this every happen?”

“He does have great stories that I think I can say — like going to China, and he has to buy a separate phone to use and throw it away when he leaves because the minute your phone connects to a cell tower, it’s automatically hacked, and they can listen to it when it’s off,” Judge told Bloomberg in the video.

The show’s creators laugh about snagging him — “I heard he was out of a job,” Judge said.

HBO’s Silicon Valley doesn’t have an official start date yet, but as HBO cycles its shows about a year, it’s a safe bet it will be back on next spring around March/April, sandwiched somewhere around Game of Thrones.
