Today in cool as ice, GoPro signed a deal with the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association to strap some cameras on several of the best players in the league to give fans unbelievable views from the rink.

The promo video below is from the Player Media Tour, filmed in Newark, N.J., and was completely shot using the HERO3+ and HERO4. They will use the cameras this weekend during the All-Star Skills Competition tomorrow and potentially during Sunday’s All-Star Game, to “deliver viewers never-before-seen perspectives of the game,” according to the announcement from GoPro.

It’s part of GoPro’s Professional Broadcast Solution, which gives HERO4’s live, HD wireless broadcast capabilities. It’s unclear how this would work in a regulation NHL match, as the cameras need to be strapped on helmets and such, but we’ll see how that goes.

On a side note, why isn’t hockey more popular in the Pacific Northwest? With Canada being right there, you’d think there’d be more enthusiasm for it here.
