George R.R. Martin gave fans eagerly awaiting the next book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series a snippet today when he released an excerpt from The Winds of Winter on his site.

The chapter is online now, and if you don’t like spoilers don’t look.

If you can’t resist, however, the new chapter is told from Sansa Stark’s perspective, who is in hiding as Littlefinger’s bastard daughter, “Alayne.”

The Winds of Winter won’t be released this year, and Martin’s publisher HarperCollins has told the media, including the Guardian, that they have no idea when the book will be out.

The chapter is a nicely timed precursor to next Sunday’s premiere of Game of Thrones on HBO.

Martin is also appearing as a guest of honor at Norwescon tomorrow at the DoubleTree Hilton at SeaTac, where we’re sure there will be lots of questions about what’s next for his book series. We’ll be there, so stay tuned.
