Geography matters more than ever when it comes to connecting with tech companies. Job seekers, in particular, are increasingly taking into account the locations of companies before applying, given the potential implications for their daily commutes.

A new feature on the GeekWire 200 should help. With our September update, we’ve added an interactive online map to our monthly ranking of the Pacific Northwest’s top technology startups, allowing users to browse the 200 companies by location. This is in addition to the existing ability to filter the GeekWire 200 by industry category, company size, social followings and web presence.gw200

As a bonus, we’ve also added a similar map to our Startup List, the larger database of more than 850 Pacific Northwest tech startups, from which the GeekWire 200 is created. Given the size of the Startup List database, this is an unprecedented look at the current geographic distribution of the region’s tech startups.

To access the maps, just go to the Startup List and GeekWire 200 pages, and click the “See Map” button.

The GeekWire 200 —presented by our partners at EY — is derived from our broader list of more than 900 Pacific Northwest tech startups.

The list is designed to provide a better understanding of the startup landscape in the Northwest.

To make sure your startup is eligible for inclusion in the GeekWire 200, first make sure it’s included in the broader Startup List. If so, there’s no need to submit it separately for the GeekWire 200. If your Pacific Northwest startup isn’t among the companies on that larger list, you can submit it for inclusion here, and our algorithm will crunch the numbers to see if your company makes next month’s GeekWire 200. (Please, no service providers, marketing agencies, etc.)

Thanks to everyone for checking out this month’s ranking. And, just a reminder, if you value resources like these, be sure to check out our list and map of out-of-town tech companies with Seattle engineering outposts as well as our list of startup incubators, co-working spaces and accelerators in the region.
