The Federal Communications Commission has released the full set of its net neutrality rules to the public two weeks after passing them in a party-line vote. The rules clock in at a whopping 400 pages, and their release briefly led the FCC’s website to crash this morning as interested people rushed to read the document.
The site is back up now, and also includes statements from all four commissioners and FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler. Unsurprisingly, Wheeler, Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel and Commissioner Mignon Clyburn wrote statements in support of the rules, while Commissioners Michael O’Rielly and Aijit Pai spoke out against the rules.
The release of this information is only the beginning of the wrangling over them. Republicans in Congress are still attempting to create new regulations that would overrule the FCC’s decision, and it’s likely that telecommunications companies will file a lawsuit to challenge the new rules just like they have with the Commission’s attempt to regulate the internet in the past.
Now that the new rules are out, advocacy groups and other parties will certainly have their own take on the full document.
