Tableau Software is growing fast, and now the Seattle-based maker of data visualization software is planting its flag in the most populous country in the world.
The company announced today that it is opening an office in Shanghai.
China’s business analytics market hit $1.4 billion last year, and it is expected to double in size by 2019.
“With 1.3 billion people, a quickly expanding urban economy, and exponential rates of Internet and smartphone penetration, China generates an immense amount of data annually,” said JY Pook, APAC Vice President of Tableau Software, said in a release. “Tableau can help bring that data to life with rapid-fire insights.”
During the second quarter, Tableau reported international revenue of $36.7 million, an 83 percent growth rate over the same period last year. Total revenue at the company was up 67 percent.
Tableau is also rapidly expanding its footprint in Seattle, announcing a new lease last month in the Fremont neighborhood. The company now employs about 1,200 people in Seattle.
Tableau’s stock is up 23 percent so far this year, and the company now has a market value of $7.45 billion.
