It’s the home of the Seattle Seahawks’ green and blue, but yesterday CenturyLink Field was lit up in the colors of West Africa to show solidarity in the fight against Ebola.
Tackle Ebola, a coalition formed and funded by Paul Allen, organized the initiative, which featured eight U.S. landmarks — including One Liberty Place in Philadelphia and Niagara Falls in upstate New York — displaying red, green, yellow and black lights to heighten awareness about the need to combat the deadly infectious disease. The coalition’s goal is to eliminate Ebola entirely.

“The urgency to reach zero cases of Ebola was underscored recently with several discouraging setbacks,” states the Tackle Ebola release. “18 U.S. healthcare workers were medevaced home for treatment and monitoring after exposure to the disease; Liberia reported its first Ebola infection after several weeks without a case; and the overall volume of new cases is on the rise again.”
While cases have slowed since last fall, the organization reports that the “epidemic is still ongoing,” with the World Health Organization reporting more than 24,600 confirmed cases and 10,000 deaths worldwide.
