To say that Galacticon 4 has had a tumultuous week would be an understatement.

The Seattle Battlestar Galactica fest, scheduled for this weekend at the Seattle Center, has had a slew of celeb guests cut from this weekend’s roster, resulting in its executive producer resigning and the remaining staff fielding disappointed comments from fans on Facebook.

As reported by The News Tribune, Galacticon executive producer Daniel Allan resigned Tuesday. He posted this to the event’s homepage, assuming responsibility for the changes:

“A lot of rumors are floating around about why a lot of our BSG cast has been cancelled. The truth of the matter is that we have lost our room block of Hotel rooms. in light of this I made the decision to do what was in the best interests of our Guests. They are rightfully so upset about this. but We didnt want to run the risk of having people come to Seattle and not have a place for them to stay. I do ask that you all refrain from blaming our staff and volunteers. I am the person you should be angry with.”

Allan posted that the celebrity guests still attending include: “Michael Trucco, Sandra Hess, Jewel Staite, Claudia Christian, Leah Cairns, Terry Carter, Jack Stauffer, Anne Lockhart, Sarah Rush, Bill Mumy, Angela Cartwright, Marta Kristen, Mark Goddard, Kathy Coleman, Wesley Eure, Phil Paley, Lee Stringer, Gigi Edgley, JG Hertzler, Robert OReilly, Nicki Clyne, Manu Intiraymi, Eric Chu.”

Additionally, formerly canceled original cast member and Galacticon co-founder Richard Hatch will indeed be attending this weekend’s event, according to Galacticon’s director of operations Michael DeVault, who posted the news to Galacticon’s Facebook page.

The Tribune reported that stars cut from the roster included: “Edward James Olmos, Michael Hogan, Kate Vernon, Grace Park, Aaron Douglas, Tahmoh Penikett, Kandyse McClure, Luciana Carro, Rehka Sharma and Noel Guglielmi.”

DeVault told the News Tribune that “tough decisions had to be made in order to give the fans the best experience possible.”

Galacticon fans were open about their disappointment via Facebook, but DeVault has been active in responding via the social media site: “The new management team is doing everything in their power to address all concerns while simultaneously moving forward. Please understand we understand how frustrated you are. It is not the intention of anyone connected with Galacticon to provide you with false or misleading information.”

As to refunds, DeVault posted: “I cannot make any announcements as to refunds, as those details are still being worked out.”

Galacticon 4’s weekend events will be centered around the 50th anniversary of Lost in Space, 40th anniversary of Land of the Lost and visiting stars from Battlestar Galactica.

For updates on the convention, it looks like following Facebook is your best bet.
