DualSpark, an Amazon Web Service consulting firm founded by an ex-Amazon employee, has been acquired by New Jersey-based Datapipe, which manages enterprise IT solutions.

Santa Monica, California-based DualSpark, which helps companies move onto Amazon Web Service, has been working with Datapipe since earlier this year.

“A lot of customers were asking us for that 24/7 support,” said Matthew Scott, now Datapipe’s vice president of public cloud and professional services and a former AWS executive. Before the acquisition, customers would have to sign a new contract with Datapipe. “Now, you get a continuous experience,” he said.

DualSpark will continue to help companies move services onto AWS, but now when they need help managing those cloud services, they’ll already have a relationship with a company that can quickly step in with an understanding of how things are set up.

“Most of the planning [for expanding services down the road] is done during the DualSpark part of the engagement,” Scott said. “If you’re the next Facebook and you need to scale for tens of thousands of servers, you need to … plan that out.”

DualSpark was founded by former AWS manager Simon Plant. It acquired Tacoma-based Options I/O, a company Scott founded, earlier this year.

DualSpark employees will remain under the new leadership. With the DualSpark acquisition, Datapipe employs about 800. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
