The Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch.

In yet another big tech done good story, an Apple Watch alerted a teen to an irregular heartbeat — which turned out to save his life.

The heartwarming tale comes from WCVB in Boston, which reports that Cape Cod teenager Paul Houle Jr. felt something was off after a hard football practice. He had pain in his chest and back, and his heart was pounding at a rate of 145 bpm.

Houle took a nap, but even after a rest, his Apple Watch tracked his heart rate still at 145, alerting him that something was seriously off. He went to the emergency room and found out that he was suffering from heart, liver and kidney failure which could easily have been fatal if not treated.

It’s all well and good that the Apple Watch helped save his life, but then CEO Tim Cook called him to offer him an internship next summer, as 9to5Mac reports. Oh, and a new iPhone.

Houle’s dad, who previously thought the Apple Watch was an unnecessary extravagance, has since gone out and purchased one for himself and his wife.
