Amazon Studios keeps adding serious, original entertainment to its roster — this time, it’s picked up The Neon Demon, the new movie from director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive).

According to Variety, which called it “one of the most significant deals scored at the American Film Market,” the new Amazon-backed movie is slated for release in theaters next summer.

The Neon Demon stars Elle Fanning, Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves and Jena Malone. It’s about “an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles where her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will go to any lengths to get what she has.”

Known as sort of an “edgy” director, Refn won the director prize at Cannes in 2011 for Drive — that movie that had Ryan Gosling tearing up the L.A. streets wearing that awesome shiny jacket. The Neon Demon has been categorized in the horror/thriller genre, so we’ll see if it manages to pull off the same delicate balance of delightfully campy vibe that Drive did.

We wrote about Amazon taking on the silver screen earlier this year, when the Studios announced they’d picked up a film by Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq. According to Variety, movie fans can now look forward to Kristen Wiig’s Desired Moments from Amazon Studios, too.
