For the first time, Jeff Bezos’ technical advisor is a woman.

Re/code reported Tuesday that the Amazon CEO has tapped longtime executive Maria Renz as his new “shadow,” a position created more than a decade ago to help advise Bezos with important decisions.

Renz is a 15-year veteran of Amazon, joining the Seattle giant in 1999 and was most recently CEO of Quidsi, the parent company of Diapers.com that Amazon acquired for $500 million in 2010.

She’s the first woman to hold the adviser role and takes over for former Kindle vice president Jay Marine, who will run the Amazon Instant Video business in Europe.

Re/code noted that previous “shadows” include Andy Jassy, who runs AWS; Amit Agarwal, who runs Amazon India; Greg Hart, who runs the Amazon Echo division; and Ian Freed, who ran Fire Phone initiatives.
