Airbnb tops Glassdoor’s ‘best places to work’ list; Zillow, Expedia, F5, Concur make top 50

Airbnb has dethroned Google atop Glassdoor’s “Best Places to Work” list for 2016.

The peer-to-peer lodging company, now valued at $25.5 billion, finished No. 1 on Glassdoor’s annual “Best Places to Work” list, which pulls data from surveys that ask U.S.-based employees about career opportunities, compensation, senior management, work/life balance, culture, and more.

There were 21 tech companies among the top 50, which is up from 14 last year. Guidewire (3rd), Hotspot (4th), Facebook (5th), and LinkedIn (6th) were all ahead of Google (8th), which ranked No. 1 last year.

Seattle-based Zillow Group ranked No. 10. Expedia, which did not make the list last year, was No. 16. Other Seattle-area companies include Slalom Consulting (30th), F5 Networks (33rd), Costco Wholesale (40th), REI (45th), and Concur (49th).

Neither Amazon or Microsoft have made the top 50 since Glassdoor began releasing the annual list in 2009.

For this particular list, companies are required to have at least 1,000 employees and 75 company reviews on Glassdoor, which uses an algorithm to calculate the rankings that assesses the quantity, quality and consistency of Glassdoor-approved company reviews shared by U.S.-based employees between November 3, 2014 and November 1,2015.
