geeks give back (1)How was your holiday weekend, geeks? Did you indulge in turkey, football, and shopping? We hope you got your fill and found a few must-have gadgets for the holiday season. Today is Giving Tuesday, the day when you turn your focus onto those less fortunate than you. It’s the day we’ve been waiting for.

If you’re a geek (and chances are strong that you are since you’re reading this) and you haven’t given to our Geeks Give Back program yet, then today is your day. We’re just $2,500 away from our $125,000 goal, thanks to the generous support of people throughout the tech community. Now, we need your help to get to the goal and blow right past it.

This year GeekWire, in conjunction with Bank of America, is raising money for the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship. It’s a scholarship that helps deserving students study STEM subjects in college. More than half the students are women and minorities. Many of these students are the first members of their families to attend college. If you’re searching for a worthy cause, look no further. This is it.

Here’s the great part of our program. Every dollar you give (up to $125,000) will be matched by Seattle angel investor and super geek Gary Rubens. Then the state of Washington matches that donation.  So $1.00 donated turns into $4.00 or in our case $125K equals $500K. Thanks to generous donations from Microsoft to handle the administration of WSOS, 100 percent of your donation goes to student scholarships. So great.

It’s so easy to give.  All you have to do is click here. Support STEM education in our state. Help deserving underserved students. Give Back.
